Tischendorf in three spots - German Oriental Society

4477 is German Oriental Society

5077 is Zacynthius
The first half of the Gospel of Luke, is apparently written at the beginning of the eighth century, and is characterized by a surprisingly close correspondence with the famous Vatican manuscript.

.. Such services rendered to science as Profeffor Tischendorf's can hardly be overestimated; They are of such an extent, and extend to such different subjects, "that one has to be amazed at how one man could accomplish so much **)." This open recognition is further increased by the collisions that have occurred in the last few years between the English and German scholars have come to the fore in a sharp manner. Who knows, therefore, whether the contradiction that has arisen in other areas between the two countries, or rather has been brought to a head, is about to turn into the opposite? Coder Sinaiticus, who says that Russification is hardly to English taste, says in the same place: that the importance of his discovery can hardly be overestimated, and that its publication is eagerly awaited by Tischendorf's hand.

Grolier

Israel Shenker

Constantine Simonides (1824‐1867) made even more startling recoveries, turning up fragments of Homer; his enterprise foundered when chemical analysts proved the ink too young.

Most gullible of the forger's victims was Sir Thomas Phillips, whom the Grolier Club describes as “the greatest collector of mnauscripts the world has ever known.” Such was Sir Thomas's acquisitive zeal that he ignored the evidence until the very end.

When Simonides died of leprosy, Sir Thomas got the news from Prince Demeterios Rhodocanskis, who sought to allay his correspondent's grief with assurances that the suspect Homer was genuine. Since Rhodocanakis, though an imposter as Sir Thomas was as much in the dark, as ever.
