When was the Book of Revelation Written?
The dating of the book of Revelation is often a point of contention within evangelical Christian circles. When one begins to enter the arena of eschatology (study of end-times) they are often faced…sakeofthetruth.wordpress.com
“Any position that is built solely upon the dating of a singular book is subject to fall.”
Unless the date is true.
Perfect, Steven
There is much controversy regarding the date when the book of Revelation was written.
A long time ago in my researches I made a list of the dates on which the books of the New Testament were written. According to this list,
the Gospel of John was written in 85-90 AD, probably in Ephesus;
1 John – 85-90 AD probably in Ephesus;
2 and 3 John – 90 AD, in Ephesus;
Revelation – 96 AD, on the Island of Patmos (Revelation 1.9).
Are the above dates true? I cannot say.
But reading Revelation 1:9, John said: I John ... was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the Word of GOD, and for the TESTIMONY of JESUS Christ. -> I think that John had already written the book Gospel of S. John around 85-90 AD. He said: John 21:24-25: ->24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these THINGS, and wrote these things: and we know that his TESTIMONY is true(Re.1:9). 25 And there are also many other THINGS which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
And 11 and 19: --> 11 The angel of the Lord said unto John: What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven Churches which are in Asia; 19 Write the THINGS which thou hast SEEN, and the things which are, ...
Now, the angel of the Lord knew the things which John had seen, and asked to John to write them, but I do not believe that what the angel of the Lord asked to write was simply restrict to the 7 candlesticks and the seven stars and in the middle the angel who spoke to him, so in the name of the angel "These things says he", when John was in Patmos, he also had seen during some decades after the death of JESUS all whole movement regarding the formation of evangelical communities or churches, and the birth and propagation of Christianity, for example, as is written in 1, and 2 , 3 epistles of John.
But you Steven, you have much more base than me, and can say if what I wrote has any basis and is in line with history. Furthermore, what matters for me, and prevails, is the content of the book, much more than the date it was written.
Blessings
