Not so strange for Penn, who found that by renumbering the verses and chapters in his translation, he could provide cover for the Vaticanus tendency (subsequently found to be largely shared by Sinaiticus) to skip entire verses and even paragraphs of the common text.

BTW, in double-translating οτι with BOTH "That" AND quotation marks, Penn shows his incompetence as a translator. Although I know better than to put all the blame on him: at least some of it should be shared with the publisher (publishers often introduce such nonsense into the editing and typesetting process).

Note that we see here, represented in the four "earliest and best" manuscripts, four different versions of how the verse should read. Three of them expand the text in various ways; the shortest reading, found in Sinaiticus (which often retains the Byz reading when Vaticanus diverges from it), turns out to be the Byz reading. Yes, preferring the shorter reading here sends one straight into the arms of that "vile" Textus Receptus, based on such "inferior" late manuscripts. Vaticanus, on the other hand, has the longest reading, adding τὸ ῥῆμα and ὅτι in an attempt to do what you were probably told only medieval Byzantine scribes ever did, smoothing out the text by making the implicit explicit. Not to be outdone in their emulation of Byzantine scribal excesses, the other two of the "oldest and best" mss couldn't resist that quintessential Byzantine urge to stack yet another NS on top of κν and ιν.

Would you agree, the ‘extra stacking’ of the title ‘anointed one’ (as you put it) was not ‘added’ to reinforce the the phrase being understood to read‘ if you confess with your mouth the lord Jesus…’ ie from my perspective, the presence of the title ‘anointed one’ renders null and void, the modern translation ‘if you confess Jesus as / is lord’. However, I don’t believe this would have been an issue at the time these MSS were written. I see your dislike of the KJV literal translation ‘if you confess with your mouth the lord Jesus’, yet does it not reflect the most reasonable translation of the passage? Especially, where we see the word ‘the’ added on many occasions to the phase ‘lord’ or ‘lord Jesus’? Yet, this is the only occasion I am aware of where the word order of the Greek phrase ‘lord Jesus’ is twisted around and the word ‘is’ or ‘as’ is added?
With all being said, if you were unaware of the most common English translation of the passage, how would you translate romans 10:9 based on the MSS evidence and your knowledge of Greek?
Ps, I am not a KJV only man, just in case you are wondering.
