Christian Courtois has 565, noted in a Twitter post.

Jones also reckoned there were around 500 bishoprics in N. Africa. C. Courtois noted there were 565 bishops at the Council of Carthage: 286 orthodox & 279 donatist.

We do some special studies on the heavenly witnesses verse, so Carthage AD 484 is front and center!

Yes there are varying numbers (politics, absentees, vacant seats). Afraid four years is too long for recall. Anna Leone did a great paper on the fluidity of bishop numbers/territories tho: "Bishops... Case of late Roman Byzantine n. Africa" DOP (2011). Hope that helps.
