Cresswell - homoeoteleuton list- list from Kirk or pages online
Did Nick scan various pages
what chapters from Kirk

=============

sima was likely used for most, but not all, books. E.g. Judit and Tobit are less likely to show affinity due to Syriac and Latin influences in the Sinaiticus text but not the Alexandrinus heritage.

By simply looking at a couple of modest sections, e.g. five verses each, or a chapter ar a time, a good “feel” can be had as to whether we should concentrate on the book as a whole.

E.g. if there are almost exact matches of text for a number of consecutive verses, we can run with the study of that book. If there is a homeoarcton or homoeoteleuton match for an omission in Sinaiticus, that is a solid evidence. If Sinaiticus has a correction to a Zosima text, that can be superb evidence. If there is a shared unusual spelling or para-textual markings, that can show the connection.

Nick Sayers found the first three elements in his Sirach study! Thanks, Nick.

Thus, from Nick, we found that Sirach seems to show the historical connection, enough to justify a more intense study that includes a control. A bit more can justify a short paper saying

— “probabilities are there, this needs rigorous examination, and may place Sinaiticus antiquity under a cloud, or refutation.”

In general Sinaiticus and Alexandrinus have a good affinity in most books, separate from more independent sources like Vaticanus.

Why? Because there is a lineage from Alexandrinus to Sinaiticus.

LINEAGE

Alexandrinus manuscript
Grabe and Breitinger 1700s printed editions
Zosima 1821 printed edition
Sinaiticus
(for which Zosima was part of the process)

There are other considerations, Zosima has some pages of variants in the back, which we can study. For most books the quantity is small. These can be looked at either in the first pass, or in a follow-up.

For those interested, with the Greek letter and reading skills, you might find 2, 5, or 10 hours invested to be an edifying experience. Potentially you may be helping to remove the Sinaiticus albatross from textual studies. Immediately you will be doing textual studies with a team of enthusiastic Bible believers.

Btw, skeptics and those curious are also welcome. A few make contributions in various ways, but our core are Christian believers.

Thanks!
