parchment and vellum - confusion of the two terms

Note that confusion between the two terms spans back to 1519 as noted in this quote from Wikipedia:

"In 1519, William Horman could write in his Vulgaria:

"That stouffe that we wrytte upon, and is made of beestis skynnes, is somtyme called parchement, somtyme velem, somtyme abortyve, somtyme membraan."

And today the term 'membrane' is increasingly used to describe both.4a
