The procedure for baptizing is as follows. After repeating all that has been said, immerse in running water ‘In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost’. If no running water is available, immerse in ordinary water. This should be cold if possible; otherwise warm. If neither is practicable, then pour water three times on the head ‘In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost’.”

Jesus and David in the Didache.

... by itself to hint at Jesus being the Davidic Messiah. I open again this thread since I am currently translating the Robert Vipper's chapter on the Didache, and I wonder if the Vipper's claim is the same held by Ben above, i.e. that Jesus is simply not the davidic Messiah, or a even more radical ...

Didache Priority My Position

It seems the Didache proceeds any written gospel and is the earliest Christian document we have. I used to think the gospel of Thomas was first, but now I am realizing I was wrong. The Didache author is extremely familiar with the ...

How is it that the Didache is listed as older Matthew's Gospel if it talks about The Lord's Prayer from The Gospel?

The Gospel of Matthew has The Lord's Prayer and Didache 8:2 makes a reference to Christ commanding people to pray in the manner of The Lord's Prayer. Didache 8:2 - "Neither pray ye as the hypocrites, but as the Lord hath commanded in his gospel ...

... of yours? I will try to get back to this. Okay, Bernard, to get back to this, I will start off by readily agreeing that there is nothing in Didache 9-10 which explicitly states that Jesus is the descendant of David. Much of my sense of this in the passage derives from some of the same considerations ...

Parenthesis in J.B. Lightfoot's translation of the Didache

Can anyone tell me why the parentheses are there? Does it mean that the bracketed words are missing from the Greek because the original text is damaged?
Thanks

Alan Garrow's view of Didache 9-10.

In chapter 2 of The Gospel of Matthew's Dependence on the Didache, Alan Garrow proposes that the two eucharistic chapters, 9 and 10, are not two parts of the same original liturgy, but rather two different (yet parallel) rituals. He lays them out as follows ...
